KUCHING, 11 Nov: In an effort to empower its youth and reduce unemployment, the Sarawak government has earmarked significant funds in its 2025 budget for education and skills development.
According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Graduate Enhancement Training Scheme (GETS) will receive RM23 million to provide fresh graduates with training and job placement opportunities.
“The GETS program, which aims to equip graduates with the necessary skills to meet industry demands, will benefit over 1,000 participants next year.
“This initiative is part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to reduce graduate unemployment and build a highly skilled workforce. Investing in our youth is investing in the future of Sarawak,” said the Premier.
In addition to GETS, RM20 million will be allocated to CENTEXS Digital Academy, which focuses on digital skills and upskilling the local workforce.
The state is also continuing its Dual Language Programme, with RM4.6 million allocated to improve students’ proficiency in English, particularly in Science and Mathematics subjects.
Sarawak will also expand its free tuition program under the Sarawak Education Enhancement Programme (SEEP), which received an increase in funding to RM20 million.
