KUCHING, Oct 10 : As most of the new voters are still quite innocent to the political arena, the youth wings in Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) also known as PEWARIS are aggressively supporting the new voters and listening to their aspirations, said the party youth’s chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Snowdan Lawan disclosed that to make the youth presence strong, the youth wings have DEVELOPED programmes together with the elected representatives.
“As such, our machinery in this upcoming election will be well prepared and the youth wings are ready to assist the party,” he said during a phone call interview with a TVS reporter on Monday.
“in recent times, we have worked to gain new members from the 18 to 28 age group to participate in numerous community programmes and projects.
“This is to ensure that they are given the right exposure towards politics in the state and Malaysia as a whole.
On younger voters’ expectations, he said that younger generations hope to have a stable government and understand what the government can offer to them in terms of education and job opportunities.
“This is based on studies we have undertaken from interviewing the younger generations.
“The studies conducted are very important to us as most of the youths are still studying and we have trouble reaching out to them, especially those residing in rural areas,” he said.
At the same time, he stressed that the government’s role to educate and engage the younger generations in politics is intensifying through the programmes held.
“What is most important is that we need to assure them of their rights to vote and give them the confidence that the government now is stable.” – TVS
