SINGAPORE, Sept 9: Negotiations on gas distribution between the Sarawak Government and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) are still ongoing.
According to Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Petronas remains a strategic partner of the Sarawak Government through Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).
“The Sarawak Government, through Petros, has the legal mandate to regulate gas distribution in Sarawak.
“By virtue of the law, Petros is the aggregator of gas and is now working closely with Petronas,” he said in a press conference after receiving a courtesy call from the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference here today.
He also commented on recent media reports claiming that negotiations on gas distribution between the Sarawak Government and Petronas had reached an impasse, stating that the reports were inaccurate.
“For the past two days, there has been much debate on this matter, but it seems somewhat inaccurate, possibly due to incomplete information and data,” he added.
Previously, Petronas President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz said that Petronas would remain a strategic partner of Sarawak with significant investment allocations for development. – TVS
