KUCHING, March 19: Malaysian professional boxing star, Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong, also known as ‘Kilat Boy’, has achieved yet another milestone by receiving a special invitation to compete in the IBA Intercontinental Boxing Championship.
Kilat Boy, who is currently ranked number one in professional boxing in Malaysia and sits at the 210th position globally, admitted that he never expected this selection, despite having dreamed of competing in the prestigious tournament.
“Alhamdulillah, I am very happy with this achievement. At the same time, receiving a special invitation to the IBA International Continental Boxing is one of my highest accomplishments this year,” he said when contacted by TVS today.
According to Kilat Boy, the special invitation was extended based on his ranking, star ratings, and the fighting style he has demonstrated in the ring.
He added that his last two matches in January and February played a significant role in attracting the attention of the event organizers.
In his most recent match in February, Kilat Boy triumphed over Filipino boxer Prince Andrew Laurio in the Johor International Boxing Championship 2025, which indirectly opened the opportunity for him to receive the special invitation to the upcoming tournament.
“After that victory, I immediately received a message confirming that I was eligible for the special invitation. It was a surprise for me,” he said.
Regarding preparations, Kilat Boy plans to return to his training camp next week after completing the filming of the movie “Tumbukan Emas”.
“I will intensify my efforts in training, focus more on sparring sessions, improve my game strategy, and sharpen my punches. Insya-Allah, I will enhance every aspect to give my best performance in this major tournament,” he added. – TVS
