Bidayuh Association publishes first tourism magazine

KUCHING, Dec 6: In an effort to boost Sarawak’s recovering domestic tourism sector, the Penrissen Bidayuh Entrepreneurs Association (PUBP) has launched its first ever travel magazine.

In collaboration with various agencies, the magazine highlights various local Eco-tourism attractions in the Borneo Highlands, such as the aptly named villages above the clouds.

“The publication of this magazine will promote our tourism industry by incorporating the tourist attractions locality, arts, culture, heritage, home stays, yearly fun activities in Mambong and Padawan in attracting local as well as international tourists to visit the areas,” said Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil when officiating the launching of the magazine at a hotel in Kuching today.

Apart from that, he said tour information such as tour guide, accommodation and transport details are also in the magazine.

“This magazine is a tool for promotion and act as a strategic platform for marketing as it will boost up small and medium business activities surrounding the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Jerip who is also Mambong Assemblyman said the magazine will also benefit the local communities’ economies by bringing in an influx of tourists.

“There will be economic spin-off of tourism to the local community in terms of generating some income from sale of crafts, agriculture products, local and traditional food and beverages such as manok pansuh, pekasam ikan and tempoyak.

“The homestay operators will benefit by engaging customers/tourists in their homestay packages, such as providing accommodation, food plus tour attractions,” he added.

To further cement the magazine’s role in boosting domestic tourism, Jerip said it will be distributed and placed at various tourism and government agencies.

Also present during the launching were PUBP Chairman Jores Sedek and the Magazine’s Chief-Editor Associate Professor Dr Qistina Donna Lee. – TVS
