For some teens, life can be hard if you’re less privileged than others as you seek to cut corners in your spending in order to survive throughout your first year of university or college. In light of that problem, first-year undergraduates from Sarawak are able to apply for the Sarawak Foundation Tertiary/Technical Institution Enrolment Assistance (HGiPT) incentive.
The incentive will be given to students who have accepted offers to study in any public institution of higher learning (IPTA) throughout the country. For students in private institutions, those from Curtin University Malaysia (Miri), Swinburne University of Technology (Kuching) and University College of Technology Sarawak (Sibu) will still be considered for the incentive.
Those from B-40 families are highly encouraged to apply if they plan on continuing their studies in tertiary institutions.
The incentive itself was brought into existence with the main goal of financing the initial cost of studies incurred by students. To be more precise, the incentive will help to ease the financial burden of B40 families to fund their children’s education when pursuing their studies at IPTA.
Haji Mersal Bin Abang Rosli, the director of Sarawak Foundation, has informed that students who have applied for the incentive are still eligible to apply for Skim Pinjaman Pelajaran (Dalam Negara) under the circumstances that they have been offered to study in any IPTA.
He also highlighted that eligible students will mainly consist of those from families with an income RM1, 500 or less per month.
It is also noteworthy to include that incentive applications will only be compliant if students are in semester one only.
