AFTER an audience with the Yang Dipertuan Agong this morning, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon has hinted that parliament sitting would be convening soon.
“God willing, I’ll see you soon for the parliament sitting, be it through a normal parliamentary sitting or through a hybrid parliament,” he told media reporters after exiting Istana Negara.
Both the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun and Dewan Negara Speaker Tan Sri Rais Yatim arrived at the Istana Negara in the morning for an audience with the Yang Dipertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’Ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah regarding the reopening of the Parliament.
The audienece ended around noon but no details about the one-hour session were revealed.
In a joint statement last Friday, Rais and Azhar said a hybrid sitting of the Parliament can be expected at the end of August or in the first week of September at the latest.
Following the audience, Istana Negara in a statement said that the YDP Agong is of the view that Parliament should sit as soon as possible to enable emergency proclamation to be tabled.
The Yang Dipertuan has held private audiences with top political leaders over the past month and repeated the call that Parliament should convene to ensure a check and balance system.
