SIBU, May 31: An inmate at the Sibu prison took advantage of a faulty grille lock of a prison cell to make his escape.
According to Sibu Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, the inmate, Lee Ka Yieng, 49, was belived to have climbed over the spandex wall at around 12 noon yesterday before fleeing.
Stanley said the search for the inmate is still ongoing.
“The imate was sentenced to five years imprisonment for a narcotics offence in Kapit last November.
“He was isolated in a temporary room as he was earlier suspected to be infected by Covid-19,” said Stanley.
He was later tested negative for Covid-19 after undergoing a Covid-19 test, he added.
