KUCHING, May 24 : Three ‘Kliriengs’ (burial poles) were recently discovered in Sungai Penyarai, Tatau.
The latest discoveries were found as the river water receded due to drought.

“We can’t pinpoint who or when and why these Klirieng were thrown into the river.
“But I was told that these Klirieng caused several natural disaster such as flood and upon the advise of the communities’ shamans, they were discarded into the river. But this was then.
“Now, it holds major historical value to the state,” Karim told a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, today.
Currently, the museum department is conducting research on the intricate carvings of the Klirieng but is unable to transport it as been damaged throughout the years.
“It was able to withstand all the time its been underwater because it is made from Belian.
“Once the study is completed, we will expedite its recovery so that it can be showcased in our museum,” said Karim.-TVS
