KUCHING, April 30 : In a bid to cultivate reading habits and empower the reading community in Kuching, ‘Uncle Larry’s Bookfair’ in collaboration with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak had organised a book campaign at the Hills Shopping Mall here.
In the spirit of this book campaign, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak donated over 300 books to the campaign.
Meanwhile, The Hills also donated books to the Salvation Army to inculcate a reading culture among its members.
“This is a great gesture by The Hills. I believe this will greatly benefit the children in expanding their knowledge and a good encouragement for those who are slow in reading,” said the Superintendent of the Salvation Army, Captain Cathy Aloba.
At the same time, The Hills is also implementing the read, swap, repeat programme in line with one of its objectives, which is to further empower the reading community in Kuching.
“Readers will be able to read and exchange their favourite books, and at the same time leave a short review of the books by writing a short note or review on the sticky notes that will be provided.
“It is hoped that through the effort, the book campaign will be able to bring together the readers’ community in Kuching,” said the Chief Operations Officer of the Hills, Lionel Ho.
As such, with the continuous support of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and Uncle Larry, The Hills hopes that this community initiative will be able to attract more visitors in addition to starting a book community and spark the joy of reading whilst exploring a variety of activities held all year round. – TVS
