Individual sleeping on the job arrested for false police report

ByHaris Zainuddin

KUCHING, 13 Nov : An individual was arrested by the police for lodging a false police report, in which he claimed to have been robbed by two men.

However, further investigation found that the suspect lodged the false report out of a desire to avoid his employer from finding out that he was actually slacking off during work.

“Based on the report, the said ‘incident’ took place around 5.00 a.m. on Friday, 12 November, at an industrial equipment import company near Muara Tabuan Light Industrial Park at Jalan Setia Raja, Kuching.

“The suspect falsely claimed that he was approached by two men wearing face masks, and one of them brandished a machete and put it on his neck, while the other took his mobile phone and cash amounting to RM500,” said Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah.

He added that the police report was a tactic to cover up the fact that he was sleeping at work.

Ahsmon said the suspect will be arraigned at the Kuching High Court this Monday, 15 November 2021, on charges for making a false report.

He reminded the public to refrain from making false police reports as there will be dire consequences for doing so.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, where if found guilty, he can be punished either with a prison term not exceeding six months or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both. – TVS
