KUCHING, 2 Nov: Politics is run by intelligent minds but leading with the heart requires a different leadership style.
Leading with the heart involves in putting people first, serving the community and creating purposeful policies.
Describing the late Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing as a compassionate leader who led with the heart, Tupong Assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said Masing was also known for his advocacy in developing the rural areas.
“When it comes to James Jemut Masing, the first thing that comes to mind is rural development as he had loudly fought for rural development,” said Fazzrudin.
He noted that the Deputy Chief Minister was a very friendly, soft spoken and humble person who brought up issues in a very knowledgeable and meaningful manner.
“We all sympathise with his family. Â We have lost a very good statesman. It is a big loss, for he had done a lot for the State of Sarawak,” he added.
Fazzrudin recalled Masing as always being supportive throughout his political career.
“During one particular State Assembly sitting, we were debating an issue with the Opposition. After I finished giving my speech, he commended me for a job well done.
“Keep the fire burning. Politics is like a marathon, it is not a 100-meter sprint. Keep that fire up until the last mile of the marathon,” the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Deputy Youth Chief was told.
Meanwhile, PBB Youth Chief Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu said the late Masing had constantly urged the youth wings of the component parties within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to show unity in their political endeavours.
“Without unity, it will be a mess. We are grateful for what he has contributed from the beginning to the development of our people in Sarawak, and hope his legacy can continue,” he pointed out. – TVS
