KUCHING, Oct 5: Unregistered tour operators operating in the tourism bubble areas have been urged to register their establishment and services with Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC).

The move would ensure total compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set by the authorities, to avoid legal action as MOTAC emphasis on aspects of enforcement and compliance with the Tourism Industry Act 1992 (Act 482).

MOTAC issued a statement today, following the ministry’s enforcement team surveillance on domestic tourism activities, hotspots and on local industry players in Langkawi from October 1 to 3.

As such, the monitoring focuses on SOP compliance by the Tour Operating Business & Travel Agency Business (TOBTAB) at the same time gather local tourists reaction through a survey on the new norm.

“And majority of the tourists where inclined to personally booking the transportation tickets, accommodation, and tour tickets.

Meanwhile, MOTAC said surveillance was vital to ensure Malaysians can travel to Langkawi safely and boost the domestic tourism revenue.

“It is also in line with the target to achieve 400,000 tourists to Langkawi by December 2021,” MOTAC added.
