Back in prison for former criminals

KUCHING, SEPT 29: For some former criminals, being released would mean turning over a new leaf but in the case of these two felons, it was right back to their life of crime.

Both male suspects whom had committed past acts of burglary and thefts in Kuching and surrounding areas, have been apprehended by the police.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Ahsmon Bajah said that a local woman was also arrested in the same police raid of a convenience store and a rented room at Jalan Tun Ahmad Adruce, Kuching.

“All suspects are aged 26, 28 and 39 when arrested in a police raid on the 24th and 25th of September.

“Two of the male suspects are former inmates that were recently released in December 2020,” revealed Ahsmon in a press conference held at Kuching District Police Headquarters today.

The criminal records of all suspects showed all three were once arrested for narcotics charges along with previous charges of theft and robbery.

All three suspects from “Geng Piji” or “Geng Tiga” were detained for 4 days to help with further investigations under Section 379A, Section 411, Section 427 and Section 457 of the Malaysian penal code.

“Their method of operating was crafty whereby the burglaries were done between the hours of 2am to 3am at their desired target.”

The group would steal and strip desired accessories that would later be sold before burning the vehicle to prevent any traces of their activity.

“The stolen vehicle would be set ablaze in a discrete area located at Jalan Bako, Kuching after desired parts have been taken apart and sold to a buyer.

“A female suspect was incorporated as a sales associate to source potential customers for their illegal products to which their process of sales would be done in a face-to-face basis,”

“All of the payment transactions have been done physically and not virtually to keep their movements discrete from the attention of authorities,” explained Ahsmon.

With the capture of “Geng Piji”, it has mark the end of investigations by the police in regards to 9 grand theft auto cases and 15 home robbery cases that has accumulated a value of RM430,000 in damages.

Furthermore, police are still on alert to search for a male accomplice known as Muhammad Rafizie Saharie from Kampung Semaring Batu to aid in further investigation.

“I urge anyone who has been a victim of these house robberies to come forward to the police in hopes of identifying their items,” said Ahsmon.
