MBKS to mobilise SOP Ambassadors

ByYusuf Shukri

KUCHING, 17 September: Safe physical distancing and personal hygiene are of utmost importance to reduce the risk of transmission in the community.

In view of this, the Kuching City Council (MBKS) has appointed 56 Social Distancing Ambassadors (SDA) to ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are being adhered to, in areas under the council’s jurisdiction.

The programme was established yesterday during a virtual handing over of Appointment Letter to SDA members.

In its Mayor’s opening speech, Dato Wee Hong Seng said the programme aims to safeguard the lives of people living under the purview of MBKS.

“SDA will be monitoring the new norm in public places such as wearing face masks correctly and at the same time to remind them to always keep a safe distance from one another whenever they are out there in the public.

“Frequently wash your hands with soap or use hand sanitiser whenever you are out in the public. Avoid sharing food even with your friends and family. Shaking hands should be avoided at the moment for safety purposes,” said Wee during the ceremony.

Members of SDA consist of volunteers from various associations namely; Junior Chamber International (JCI) Padawan, JCI Damai, JCI Kuching and also the Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations (Women Section).

“They will also be equipped with the Council’s Vest and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes Face Shields and Face Masks when they are on duty.

“I would take this opportunity to thank the volunteers for their willingness to be part of MBKS Social Distancing Ambassadors especially during this critical moment. I appreciate their effort to keep Kuching South people safe and secure,” remarked Wee.

The public is also advised to monitor their physical condition should they display any Covid-19 symptom.

If they are suffering from any of COVID-19 symptoms, to screen themselves with the self-test kit, before running the RT-PCR test at any COVID Assessment Centres (CAC).
