Langkawi First To Welcome Domestic Tourist

KUCHING, Sept 16: Langkawi has welcomed its first domestic tourists back to the island as the nation starts reviving its tourism industry.

About 160 people arrived today at Langkawi International Airport as part of the pioneer project.

They were welcomed by the Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and her entourage.

“This initiative will be a relief and a new light to the tourism sector as many of the industry player have long been affected by the closure since last year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“For the record, MOTAC has chosen Langkawi as the first destination to pioneer project for the opening of domestic tourism sector that can begin to be visited for those who meet the requirement of SOP,” she said.

Nancy pointed the whole Malaysian Family, including those in the state in Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan are allowed to travel Langkawi, except for those in the EMCO.

Affordable Promotions And Better Value For Domestic Tourists

Various promotions are set in place by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, in the form of discounted flight tickets and holiday packages.

Under the Economic Stimulus Package (PRE-1.0), for flight promotion; Malindo Air and Firefly offered RM50 for flight ticket; while Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia each offered a one-way ticket ranging from RM89 and RM59 respectively.

As for accommodation, Tourism Malaysia are collaborating with Malaysian Association of Hotels and Shopee offers e-vouchers through the “Jom Cuti-Cuti Malaysia! Experience Malaysia Like Never Before” campaign.

Domestic Tourists can enjoy e-vouchers worth RM50 and RM100, each for a booking of 3 days 2 nights involving seven hotels in Pulau Langkawi with one to three stars and four to five stars standard.

The hotels listed; Bon Ton Langkawi and The Smith House with 1-3 stars standard; while the 4-5 stars hotels are Aloft Langkawi, Resorts World Langkawi, Vivanta Rebak Islands, Pelangi Beach Resort, and Berjaya Langkawi Resort.

“For 12,500 successful early bookings, e-shopping voucher discounts of RM20 will also be given for direct shopping in the Shopee app,” the statement said.
