KUALA LUMPUR (JULY 16) : The following are the updates on COVID-19 figures in Malaysia and its Southeast Asian neighbours as at 6.00pm today.
The data provided by Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at John Hopkins University indicate several countries in the region witnessing a continuous surge in new cases especially in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam believed to be due to the Delta variant.
Myanmar too is seeing rising number of new cases and deaths with more than 4,000 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Indonesia recorded the highest number of deaths over the last 24 hours, 1,205 deaths with the new daily cases at 54,000.
Movement restrictions under the emergency order that was supposed to end in July 20 is now extended to July 30.
Over the last 24 hours, Thailand has hit an all-time high of 9,692 COVID-19 infections and 67 fatalities, prompting the government to further tighten measures in containing the virus.
Vietnam which is facing record number of daily new cases approved Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday for emergency use to speed up the country’s vaccination programme.
The table below also indicates the status of some ASEAN nations including Malaysia as at 6pm today as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the vaccination process moves into high gear.
