KUCHING, JULY 9: An illegal gambling racket which operated from a luxury residence was busted by police in a raid at an upscale residential area in Jalan Stutong here.
Following the raid, five men aged between 17 and 25 were arrested with various gambling equipment were seized during the operations dubbed ‘Op Dadu Khas’ at about 12.45pm on Thursday.
According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, the premise organised football bets, among others. Initial investigations found that the syndicates raked in about RM40,000 from bookie activities and RM60,000 monthly from online gambling activities.
“Betting wagers for the 2020 UEFA football championships that began in June.
“Among the equipment seized from the raid were a computer set, a smart tablet and six mobile phones,” he said.
The case, he said, would be investigated under Section 6(3) of the 1953 Betting Act and Section 4(1) of the 1953 Common Gaming Houses act.
Police have also cut off the power supply at the premises.
