DUN, NOVEMBER 21: Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Francis Harden Hollis aims to enhance telecommunication coverage for schools in Meluan constituency, covering SK Ulu Entabai, SK Nanga Ju, SK Nanga Maong, SK Nanga Ensiring, and SK Nanga Jambu.
Despite satellite services have generally met expectations, SK Nanga Ensiring presents an exception, requiring further attention.
“While satellite services generally meet expectations, external factors such as weather may occasionally disrupt the signal. Unfortunately, the telecommunications coverage at SK Nanga Ensiring falls short of satisfaction.
“At present, the schools are utilising the Raspberry Pi internet-in-a-box solution provided by my ministry. Therefore, for the long term, the Federal Ministry of Education is actively pursuing solutions to enhance coverage in these specific schools,” he said this in responding to Meluan Assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin inquiries regarding the status of telecommunications coverage in these educational institutions, during the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting, today.
In addressing Rolland’s initial query on the ministry’s potential deployment of Starlink services in Meluan schools, Harden clarified that there are currently no such plans.
“At present, the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM) has not formulated any plans for the implementation of Starlink, as MOE maintains an existing service contract with a telecommunications company until June 30, 2024.
“For SK Ulu Entabai, SK Nanga Ju, SL Nanga Maong, SK Nanga Ensiring, and SK Nanga Jambu, internet connectivity is presently facilitated through the services of the designated telecommunications company,” he noted. – TVS
