KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17: Over 3,400 Sarawakian students have benefited from Petronas’ “Discover PETRONAS @ Schools” programme, which aims to expose students to career opportunities in the energy sector, aligning with Petronas’ commitment to develop Sarawak’s talent pool and support its future workforce.
“PETRONAS has extended its support well beyond traditional education sponsorship.
“The programme will expose students to the dynamic world of the oil, gas, and energy industry,” said Head of Human Capital Investment, Petronas Group Human Resource Management, Syed Mohammad Muhafiz Syed Mohd Bakar when met by TVS at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Besides that, PETRONAS has also taken the lead in collaborating with government agencies and state governments, offering specialized Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
“These job-oriented learning opportunities equip Sarawakians with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their future careers, further strengthening the local workforce,” he added.
Meanwhile, The Graduate Employability Enhancement Scheme (GEES), another remarkable initiative by PETRONAS, has become a beacon of hope for many Sarawakian trainees.
As of today, a remarkable total of 752 Sarawakian trainees have benefited from this groundbreaking scheme, propelling them toward rewarding careers in the oil and gas industry.
In 2019, PETRONAS invested RM 3.6 million in the Asrama Harian Luar Bandar (AHLB) Paloh project, which was specifically designed to enhance access to education for Sarawakians.
“The project is aimed at creating a substantial impact on the sustainable future of Sarawak, further emphasizing the corporation’s dedication to the holistic development of the region.
“PETRONAS continues to pave the way in nurturing local talents, not just through education sponsorship, but through a multi-faceted approach that includes exposure to the industry, TVET collaborations, and the creation of opportunities for sustainable development.
“These initiatives are set to contribute significantly to Sarawak’s future and empower its workforce for years to come,” Syed said. – TVS
