KUCHING, Oct 16: The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is set to officiate the Sarawak Regatta Kuching Waterfront Festival on October 28th.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, also unveiled a series of activities scheduled for this upcoming event, which will run from October 27th to November 5th.
“These activities include live demonstrations of food preparation by Sarawak Kitchen, the Borneo Textile Craft Festival, the Gendang Melayu Sarawak Festival, and the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta,” he told reporters after a courtesy call to the Premier at his office in Wisma Bapa, Malaysia, today.
Meanwhile, Abdul Karim announced that the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta 2023 would span three days, commencing on October 27th and concluding on the 29th.
“There are seven categories, including open, mixed, master, and a special ‘cancer survivor’ category,” he added.
“For the dragon boat races, we have also doubled the prize to RM100,000, as we did in the previous year.”
A total of 20 countries have confirmed their participation in the ninth edition of the event. These countries include Australia, the Philippines, Singapore, Ireland, Qatar, Japan, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Brunei, Spain, and Malaysia.
This participation encompasses 60 teams and 1,712 participants. – TVS
