Morrow Architects and Planners chairman Dr. Liu Thai Ker noted the importance of integrating public transportation seamlessly with urban planning to optimise ridership and convenience, especially for the residents of Kuching City.
Liu expressed his commitment to enhancing the functionality of Kuching City while preserving its unique and picturesque ambiance.
“I look forward to contributing to making Kuching City not only more functional but also preserving its romantic and beautiful atmosphere.
“I’ve been involved in planning work, which is akin to providing the city with a well-structured roadmap for its future development. Effective urban planning is the key to propelling the city forward, and typically, my plans span 15 years for Kuching City,” he said.
He told this to reporters after paying a courtesy call to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in Wisma Bapa, Malaysia today.
Addressing the forthcoming Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system in Kuching City, Liu pointed out that the synergy between public transportation and effective urban planning.
He also said during his tenure in Singapore, he collaborated with MRT professionals and witnessed the success of integrating urban planning with train and bus networks.
Reflecting on his experience, Liu added that Singapore’s achievement in having over 85% of its population using trains or buses is attributed to the exceptional convenience offered by such integration. – TVS
