KUCHING, Sept 7: The Sarawak Chapter of the Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) was launched today, marking a significant new chapter of the photovoltaic sector in the region.

The launch was officiated by the Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Datuk Julaihi Narawi during the Sustainability & Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 3.0) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.

“I believe that the Sarawak Chapter of the MPIA will be a key contributor to the future of our territory’s energy landscape.

“I understand the Sarawak Chapter will actively engage with government bodies for policies and regulations that will support the growth of the PV industry towards creating an enabling environment for innovation, investment and sustainable development,” he said this when officiating the ceremony, here today.

The launch of the MPIA Sarawak Chapter comes at a pivotal time when Sarawak is gearing towards pursuing its ambitious renewable energy targets and aligns with the vision of the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who envisioned Sarawak as a regional powerhouse.

In a statement, MPIA stated that one of the primary focuses of the Sarawak Chapter is to ensure the smoother implementation of Net Energy Metering (NEM) projects across Sarawak.

“With its commitment to collaboration and advocacy, the chapter aims to facilitate the deployment of NEM projects, thereby enabling individuals, businesses, and industries to harness the benefits of solar energy,” it added.

The MPIA Sarawak Chapter is a localised arm of the MPIA, dedicated to advancing the photovoltaic sector in Sarawak.

The chapter focuses on collaboration, advocacy, and knowledge exchange to drive the growth of the renewable energy industry and contribute to the state’s sustainable energy goals. -TVS
