KUCHING, August 30: A remarkable act of heroism unfolded in Kuching recently, as off-duty member from the Malaysia Civil Defence Department, Mohamad Syafiq Mohamad Ali Hanafiah was called to serve when a sudden and devastating fire broke out in a crowded residential area in Batu Kawa.
Mohamad Syafiq had just concluded his Zohor prayer when he abruptly heard urgent screams for help within the vicinity. Without a moment’s hesitation, he settled his religious observance and sprang into action.
Despite the danger, he bravely navigate through the smoke-filled house, determined to find and save the trapped child, but his real valiant effort was to no avail.
He was then rushed to a local clinic on a motorcyle to seek immediate medical attention before being transferred to Sarawak General Hospital for specialised care.
Mohamad Syafiq is currently being treated for his severe burns that covered almost 75 percent of his body and is placed under an induced coma as part of his medical treatment.
His mother, Julia Jeman, accept what had happened as fate and urge the public not to share any viral video footage of the incident.
She also expressed her concerns for his privacy and the family’s well-being during this challenging time.
“If possible, please do not share any videos of the incident. My heart cannot take it, seeing his condition in the video.
“I appreciate the kindness of the people who wants to share his heroism, but please consider us a his family, what we feeling now.” she expressed with a mournful tone when met by TVS at Sarawak General Hospital on Tuesday.
On Monday, a devastating fire broke out at RPR Batu Kawa, which resulted the death of six-year-old Zayyan Nazeem Zainal Abidin and two houses being reduced to ashes, another two suffering severe damage, and a final one sustaining slight damage.-TVS
