KUCHING, August 8: Vendors along the riverside are set to relocate to new locations by January 2024, as an integral aspect of the Riverside Facelift Project, ensuring a seamless transition for upgrades.
Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunication (Utilities), Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi, emphasized that this initiative is designed to elevate the waterfront atmosphere, aligning with the goal of sustaining a hospitable and enjoyable environment for visitors.
He added the relocation of vendors along Kuching Waterfront occurs in three phases: 27 blue canopy vendors in July-August, pushcart vendors to Ban Hock Wharf in September, and kiosk vendors to Pengkalan Sapi or Unity Park starting November.
Abdul Rahman also mentioned that the North Kuching City Commission has implemented measures to offer amenities at Ban Hock Wharf, aimed at ensuring the comfort of both vendors and visitors.
In another development, Abdul Rahman has put forth a proposal to establish the Cleanliness Month as an annual affairs as he intends to present a formal proposal to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, aiming to realise it.
“We propose that in the coming year, we can implement this approach collectively, through integrated discussions, and we suggest that July be designated as the month of cleanliness not only in Kuching, but throughout Sarawak.” said Abdul Rahman at a press conference after the Closing Ceremony Of Kuching Cleanliness Month at Waterfront Kuching, earlier today.
At the event, Abdul Rahman also introduced car garbage bags to the public, advocating responsible litter disposal while driving.
Now in its third year, the Cleanliness Month Initiative was launched in 2021.
