MBAN, SDEC to champion local startup

KUCHING, 21 June: The Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN) Sarawak Chapter together with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Bhd (SDEC) would continue to champion the startup ecosystem in Sarawak.

Thus, in effort to position Sarawak as a leading hub for entrepreneurial excellence, greater synergy is needed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, resources, and expertise, while at the same time drive sustainable growth and foster innovation.

“The MBAN Sarawak Chapter remains committed to promoting angel investment, driving innovation, and nurturing startups in Sarawak,” it said in a statement.

Additionally, MBAN held a roundtable discussion recently which brought together its committee members and invited guests to discuss key challenges faced by startups and angel investor, as well as initiatives and fundraising strategies.

“The round table talk provided a valuable platform for sharing insights, experiences, and perspectives on the ever-evolving landscape of startups and angel investment in Sarawak.

“The discussions centered around identifying and addressing the challenges faced by startups and angel investors, developing strategies for fostering growth and innovation, and exploring opportunities to strengthen the local startup ecosystem,” it added.

The discussions resulted in actionable plans and recommendations to further enhance the support system for startups and angel investors in Sarawak with the outcomes serving as guide for its future activities and initiatives.

Among the attendees present were members of the MBAN Sarawak Chapter namely Dato Patrick Liew, Professor Jugdutt (Jack) Singh, Anne Kung, Hazwan Razak, Ehon Chan, James Graham, David Chew, John Law, Melvin Ong, Melvin Liew and Amirul Annuar.

During the session, Professor Jack touched on the Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and current challenges in the startup scene in Sarawak.

“The diverse perspectives and experiences provided a holistic understanding of the challenges faced by startups and angel investors in Sarawak and offered innovative solutions, strategies and policies to overcome them,” it said. -TVS
