KUCHING, June 7: Sarawak’s iconic Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2023 returns for in-person festivities, a first since its hybrid format in 2019.
Grammy-winning Gipsy Kings and Tonino Baliardo are expected to take part at the music festival this year, from June 23 to 25.
Themed ‘Reflections,’ the annual event presents more than 20 performances live from 12 countries across four continents.
Festival-goers can also look forward to a host of international performers, including Tanzanian band, Safi Theatre, serving their traditional ngoma (drum and dance) with an acrobatic performance.
Rastak from Iran is set to showcase an Iranian folk music ensemble, merging contemporary rhythms while Fasylive from the Maldives experiments music inspired from the waves of their island.
Afriquoi from United Kingdom will perform the beats of Africa in an electronic mash-up.
The three-day festival will also include Chatusram from India, Rizal Hadi & Folk from Indonesia, Ethno Thai Fusion Sound Band from Thailand, Kumi Masunaga from Japan and Syed Ibrahim from Singapore in the list of lineup.
