Run for a cause

KUCHING, May 1st: More than 1,000 people took part in St. Mark’s Church inaugural charity jogathon here today.

The event aims to raise funds for the development and extension project of the church, estimated to cost around RM20 million.

The 5km run was flagged off by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian and Archbishop Simon Poh.

Meanwhile, the 3km run was flagged-off by Archbishop Simon Poh, St. Mark’s Church Main Committee Chairman Stephen Geri Ginung and his deputy David Hii.

The event started with a Mass in English at 5 am, followed by a song medley led by the church choir.

Participants warmed up by joining Zumba dances prior to the flag-off.

Food and drinks stalls were available to all attendees, while karaoke sessions were held to entertain those present.

A team of 25 running marshals, nine police officers including two traffic police officers as marshalls, RELA members, medical officers, sound technicians and St. Mark’s music band were also present to facilitate the smooth running of the event.

The jogathan ended at around 8 am with a word of thanks and final blessings from the Rector of Sacred Heart Parish and St. Mark’s Church. Rev. Fr. Felix Au.

Participants were given a jogathon cap each for those who collected RM100 and above in their jogathon cards. – TVS
