KUCHING, MAY 24: In view of the Covid-19 pandemic and the standard operating procedure (SOP) to curb the spread, the bathing of the Buddha ritual will be done online via video conference to mark the celebration of Wesak Day.
As the actual ritual of bathing the Buddha is not allowed to be carried out, this does not deter devotees to use alternative measures with the advent of technology by giving carrying out the ritual online.
The auspicious day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of Buddha.
As a grand celebration is not possible, the Kuching Buddhist Society has come up with a  giant panting known as Thangkas displayed outside Wisma Buddhist Dhammadutta in Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho this morning.
Kuching Buddhist Society Youth Section Tay Boom Seng told TVS that the idea is the first of its kind so that passers-by can be reminded of the virtues of Buddha.
A thangka, sometimes spelt as thangka, tangka, thanka, or tanka, is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.
