KUCHING, 30 Dec: With the new year approaching, and 2022 as a significant year to start entering the endemic phase and reclaiming normal daily lives, Sarawak is on track to recovery and move forward with confidence.
As such, Minister of Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, is confident that the vision can be realised with the implementation of the Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to accelerate progress in various aspects.
“The implementation of PCDS 2030, with seven strategic thrusts anchored on six economic sectors and reinforced by seven enablers, aims to accelerate Sarawak’s economic development,” said Lee in his 2023 New Year message earlier today.
He added that his ministry will continue to develop and improve the transport sector in Sarawak for the safety and well-being of the people.
Hence, all the relevant agencies will be involved as the Transport Ministry aims for a seamless mobility for all.
“My ministry will continue to work closely with all the relevant agencies and local authorities for an integrated and systematic urban traffic management to create a safe and healthy environment in our cities and towns,” he said.
In addition, the Transport Minister stressed that with safety being a vital aspect in the ministry, current works and efforts, such as awareness programmes, have been launched to create security and behavioural changes among road, riverine and airline users, improve travel experiences as well as mitigate issues of concern.
“The launch of the Transport – Awareness Behaviour Change (T-ABC) Programme aims to raise public awareness and drive behavioural change among road users,“ he added.
“For safety of riverine navigation, we have also installed Aids to Navigation (AtoNs) incorporating the latest and appropriate digital technology to improve safety and ensure security of vessels on the rivers.
“All airlines are required to use aerobridges for all flights at airports in Sarawak. “
Meanwhile, Lee also urged Sarawakians to work closely with the Sarawak government and develop Sarawak into a thriving state where everyone can enjoy economic prosperity, social inclusivity and sustainable environment.
“Under the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, development plans are being executed and many more are in the planning to improve people’s living standards, includes upgrading roads, utilities and internet infrastructure, talent development, hydrogen production and air connectivity with other regions to facilitate logistic and air travels for tourists and business travellers,” said Lee.
On another note, Lee also advised all road users to drive safely, stay alert and plan their journeys in advance, especially during festive seasons. – TVS
