KUCHING, Nov 25: Miri will transform into a food hub to export and market food produces from the Northern Region of Sarawak.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said a number of strategies and initiatives have been formulated.
“Developing Agroparks and expanding the Permanent Food Production Zone.
“This will allow for the production of high-value crops such as coconut, coffee, banana, vegetables, spices and herbs,” he said this replying to Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang’s question regarding the plans to turn Miri into a food hub during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Friday (Nov 25).
He pointed out the ministry will also implement commercial-scale farming activities through Public-Private and Community Partnership models that promotes contract farming and marketing.
Dr Abdul Rahman added that the agrofood supply chain will be strengthened and developed to achieve the target.- TVS
