KUCHING, Oct 13 : Political parties, coalitions are now strategizing their next move into the impending 15th General Election (GE15), an expert said.
Political analyst Hasan Jafri noted that the ‘ultimate’ challenge is who has the best strategy in such limited time, in terms of coalitions consensus on seat allocations as well as candidates.
“There have been a lot of discussions this time on how they will approach this election or how the seat adjustments will likely be brought.”
“Now, in a stage where there is such a limited time and what respective coalitions would like to see in terms of the seats,” he told TVS in an interview.
Jafri also acknowledged that, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is a strong coalition in which the support from GPS would be vital to ensure a stable government for the next ruling government, making it a force to be reckoned with.
“GPS has a very strong hold position in the previous state elections and that’s important to any political party as GPS is a strong coalition that parties in the peninsular need to work with.
“Given the performance that GPS has shown in the last election that they have considerable strength in Sarawak. It was partly supplemental by the state elections where GPS is there, so i would imagine that the performance of GPS shouldn’t be too different than the last election,” he added.
He pointed out GPS won with a landslide victory in the 12th Sarawak State Election in December 2021, winning 76 out of 82 seats. Having such momentum GPS is expected to repeat its similar performance in GE15. -TVS
