NEW YORK, June 30: Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Sa’eed Iravani, has condemned Israel’s deliberate attacks on Iranian medical personnel in a formal complaint submitted to the United Nations (UN), the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
In his letter addressed on Sunday to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council, Iravani said the Israeli regime intentionally targeted Iranian medical staff and healthcare facilities during the recent war of aggression, in blatant violation of international law, particularly international humanitarian law.
He stated that Israel’s “brutal and relentless military aggression” resulted in numerous civilian casualties and extensive damage to non-military infrastructure across Iran.
Iravani further emphasised that Israel’s actions constituted flagrant violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, as well as other relevant treaties, by systematically attacking medical personnel and healthcare centres, causing significant loss of life and widespread destruction.
Israel initiated the aggression on June 13, just three days before scheduled talks between Iran and the United States concerning Tehran’s peaceful nuclear programme.
The United States entered the war on June 22, launching airstrikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites: Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces carried out powerful retaliatory strikes, targeting key positions across Israeli-occupied territories and inflicting heavy damage.
A ceasefire was announced on June 24. – TVS
