KUCHING, June 23: Flight operations at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) have been disrupted due to the temporary closure of the runway until 3PM today.
In a statement today, Minister of Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the closure was caused by an incident involving a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft.
According to him, the aircraft encountered difficulties during landing at approximately 11:15 AM, prompting the authorities to halt all commercial flights and reroute several inbound flights as a precautionary measure.
He said that military personnel are currently handling the situation and that the closure was necessary to allow for runway clearing operations.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and collaborating with all authorities to ensure the runway is cleared promptly so that affected flights can resume safely,” he added.
Meanwhile, passengers are advised to stay updated with the latest information through their respective airline’s official channels for details on rescheduled flights. – TVS
