KUCHING, May 31: Hari Gawai Dayak is more than just a celebration of culture; it represents a unifying force and a symbol of shared commitment among the Dayak community in driving the region’s development.
Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, called on the Dayak community to remain united and actively support the state’s economic transformation efforts in line with Sarawak’s development agenda.
“Gawai Dayak is a grand celebration of the Dayak people that reflects their identity in Sarawak, just as envisioned by past leaders.
“I believe prominent figures such as the late Dato Sri Tra Zehnder, who championed the recognition of Gawai Dayak by the government in the early 1960s, also dreamed of this celebration becoming a platform for Dayak unity as well as the empowerment of their cultural and economic standing,” he said in his Gawai Dayak 2025 message.
In the same message, he and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, extended their Hari Gawai greetings to the entire Dayak community.
“Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai, Lantang Senang Nguan Menua to all Dayak communities celebrating Gawai, wherever you may be,” he said. – TVS
