KUCHING, May 31: The Gawai Dayak celebration remains a powerful symbol of unity, cultural heritage, and collective strength in Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan described Gawai not only as a traditional festival marking the end of the harvest season, but also as a manifestation of the rich cultural heritage passed down through generations.
“Gawai is a time for us to appreciate our rich cultural heritage, strengthen family ties, and remember the contributions of our ancestors who built the life we enjoy today,” he said in his Gawai Dayak 2025 message today.
He highlighted that Sarawak is now firmly on a path towards becoming a developed state by 2030, supported by diverse development initiatives, rural economic empowerment, and a strong emphasis on sustainable growth and green energy.
“With various development initiatives, efforts to empower the rural economy, and a focus on sustainable development and green energy, Sarawak is building a solid foundation for the prosperity of future generations,” Tengah added.
Amid the festive spirit of returning home, he also urged all Sarawakians travelling back for Gawai to prioritise road safety.
The Deputy Premier stressed that Gawai is a celebration that transcends ethnic and religious boundaries, offering an opportunity for all Sarawakians to appreciate the uniqueness of Dayak culture and the rich ethnic heritage of Sarawak. – TVS
