YPXLR8: Yayasan Peneraju pivots Bumiputera into tech sector

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16: Yayasan Peneraju (YP) has launched YPXLR8 (YP Accelerate), a strategic programme designed to open up career transition opportunities for Bumiputera individuals moving from non-tech to tech sectors.

The programme aims to train and place 1,000 Bumiputera participants in tech-based roles to help meet the growing demand for skilled digital talent in Malaysia.

In a press statement on Thursday, Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said the economic landscape today is becoming increasingly tech-driven, requiring Malaysia’s workforce to be equipped with advanced skills in emerging technologies.

“YPXLR8 offers an ideal platform to pivot Bumiputera talents towards this opportunity.

“This initiative supports Malaysia’s digital transformation agenda by building a robust Bumiputera presence in strategic technology sectors, aligning with the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and 4IR Policy initiatives,” he said.

Meanwhile, YP Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim Sani said the programme creates access for individuals without a tech background to participate in the digital economy.

“It is crucial that with the hundreds of thousands of jobs that will be displaced because of the AI revolution, the millions of talents today need to be re-equipped with the tools to be future-proofed by being tech-ready,” he said.

Participants will undergo a minimum of eight months of industry-guided training and hands-on experience with a Hosting Company.

Each YPXLR8 participant will receive financial support of RM1,500 per month and a RM9,000 training credit to strengthen their skills in areas such as Software Development, Data & Analytics, Systems Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, AI & Machine Learning, UX/UI Design, Product Management, Software Support, and Business Intelligence.

The programme also targets collaboration with various industry sectors interested in becoming Hosting Companies, to empower Bumiputera talent and help close the national digital skills gap.
