KUCHING, March 19: Sarawak is exploring significant opportunities for collaboration with Australia, with a key focus on sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, and advanced manufacturing.
This was the highlight of a recent courtesy call on Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan by New South Wales (NSW) Senior Trade Commissioner Andrew Parker and President of the Sarawak Australia Business Chamber Rodger Chan, alongside their delegation.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a variety of potential areas for cooperation, including hydro power, solar energy, biomass, and green hydrogen.
These renewable energy projects align with Sarawak’s vision of becoming a key player in sustainable energy solutions in the region.
The discussion also touched on the oil and gas downstream sector, as well as new, high-growth industries like semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, biotechnology, and medical
Meanwhile, Parker acknowledged the exciting potential for both Sarawak and New South Wales to collaborate further, particularly in tourism, sports management, and the development of technical skills through education exchanges.
These discussions are part of broader efforts to strengthen the ties between the two regions and unlock new economic opportunities.
At the same time, Awang Tengah expressed his enthusiasm for fostering more government-to-government and business-to-business engagements.
\He emphasized the importance of social and cultural exchanges, which would enhance the relationship between Sarawak and Australia, benefiting both regions in the long term.
Also present during the meeting were the MINTRED Advisor (SME) Dato Sri Mohd. Naroden Majais, Permanent Secretary of MINTRED Dzulkornain Masron, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MINTRED Lo Sheau Sia, CEO of InvestSarawak Timothy Ong and senior officers from MINTRED, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development and Economic Planning Unit in the department of the Premier of Sarawak. – TVS
