KUCHING, Nov 18: The Sarawak government allocates RM86.6 million annually for the allowances of community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK), reflecting a 15% increase of RM12.5 million compared to 2020.
Minister in the Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, highlighted that the last salary adjustment for KMKK was in 2018, which included a RM100 monthly increment in salary and allowances.
Speaking at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today, he stated that the government is in the final stages of reviewing further adjustments.
“These updates aim to address the growing responsibilities, challenges, and economic conditions faced by our community leaders,” he said.
Additionally, he said the state has received 915 proposals for new KMKK positions from various divisions.
“We are carefully evaluating these applications based on guidelines such as area size, population, and household numbers to ensure effective service delivery,” he explained.
He further reiterated that the Sarawak government remains committed to supporting its community leaders in meeting the evolving needs of the people. Â – TVS
