KUCHING, Nov 18: PETROSNiaga has officially taken on the role of the sole distributor of subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Sarawak.
A subsidiary of PETROS, holding a 51% stake, and PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB), with 49%, PETROSNiaga is managed by a board of directors comprising four members, two representing PETROS and two from PDB.
According to Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, his ministry has collaborated with various agencies to ensure thorough monitoring of subsidized LPG cylinder activities.
“My ministry has collaborated with multiple agencies, including the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Fire and Rescue Department, Local Authorities, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), General Operations Force (PGA), Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Customs Department, and others to ensure comprehensive monitoring of all activities related to subsidized LPG cylinders,” he highlighted this during the wrap-up speech for his ministry at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session on Monday.
Julaihi further explained that the ongoing process of replacing yellow LPG cylinders with PETROS LPG cylinders on a one-to-one basis, free of charge, is being carried out efficiently.
“As of October 2024, PETROSNiaga has successfully replaced 690,000 yellow LPG cylinders with PETROS LPG cylinders.
“Currently, approximately 1.8 million subsidized PETROS LPG cylinders are available in the Sarawak market,” he added.
This initiative, according to him, not only enhances consumer access to subsidized LPG but also ensures better control and more efficient distribution throughout the state. – TVS
