KUCHING, Oct 29: Batik Air is set to introduce direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Bintulu starting November 1, with a frequency of 10 flights per week.
In a statement today, Batik Air also revealed that it will launch another direct service, between Kuala Lumpur and Miri, on January 14, 2025, with 14 flights scheduled weekly.
Minister for Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, emphasized that these new routes are crucial in promoting business travels, tourism, and air cargo movement.
“These flights will not only enhance travel convenience but also open new avenues for economic growth, particularly in regions like Bintulu and Miri, which are already hubs of industrial activity,” he said after leading a delegation on a courtesy visit to Batik Air CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy on Monday.
During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of expanding Batik Air’s flight services to the state, including direct international routes between Kuching and Singapore.
Kim Shin also noted that with Shell relocating its headquarters to Miri, Sarawak is aiming to attract more visitors and investors, contributing to the state’s long-term development across various sectors.
Also present at the courtesy visit were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Sarawak Datu Wong Hee Sieng, and the Ministry’s Aviation Technical Advisor Mr. Sio Yew Hua. – TVS
