BINTULU, Oct 21: Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) has partnered with the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) to promote environmental conservation through its Jungle Trekking & Tree Planting Program at Similajau Forest Reserve.
BPHB, through a statement said the initiative is part of the Greening Sarawak Campaign, which aims to plant 35 million trees statewide and showcase its commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
“A total of 131 participants took part in the event, including 93 representatives from BPHB and 38 from FDS.
“The program included a tree-planting ceremony where 250 saplings were planted, consisting of nine native species such as Bintangor Batang Putih, Selangan Batu Pinang, and Merawan Siput Jantan.
“These species were carefully selected to contribute to the preservation of Sarawak’s rich biodiversity and natural heritage,” the statement further read.
Key figures from both organizations, including Hwang Chiong Hee (FDS), Abdul Hallek (BPHB), and Hendry (FDS), addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving a greener future.
Meanwhile, the BPHB leadership team was also present including its Chief Operating Officer Matshalleh Etli and Chief Operating Officer, Hasmadi.
This joint effort highlights the commitment of both BPHB and FDS to protecting the environment, ensuring a sustainable and greener Sarawak for future generations. – TVS
