KUCHING, 19 July: Local animation production company Kucingko Berhad has set its sights on Sarawak and Sabah for growth, in a key capacity expansion that includes opening a branch office in Los Angeles, California.
Executive Director, CJ See, stated that the plan aims to train and nurture new talents in the local animation industry, in addition to expanding its talent pool beyond Klang Valley.
“We started in Sabah, and our next destination is Sarawak, where we plan to work with government agencies to assist us in this process.
“We plan to help them understand the need to train talent to a certain level and provide employment opportunities for those we have trained. Given the right opportunity and platform, their talents will be able to be developed even further,” he said when contacted by TVS.
Additionally, CJ noted that while Malaysian talents have mastered the arts of animation, they still lack the breadth and depth of storytelling.
“As animators, we need the ability to tell stories in a way that will be universally accepted, not just in Malaysia but worldwide.
“All artists, animators, and background artists from Malaysia can work on international-level projects. These projects are usually high-quality and very demanding, and if they can achieve that, I believe their skill set will be recognised worldwide,” he added.
Established in 2002, Kucingko has produced animations for clients affiliated with major names in the entertainment industry, such as Cartoon Network, Netflix, and DreamWorks.
Kucingko’s recent Initial Public Offering (IPO) of 25 million shares was reported to be oversubscribed by 99.02 times ahead of its listing on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia on July 26th.
Kucingko will also become the first Malaysian animation production company to be listed on the local stock market. -TVS
