KUCHING, May 28: The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that four localities in Sarawak have become hotspots for dengue cases during the 20th Epidemiological Week (EW20) this year.
Health Director-General Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said 59 localities were detected nationwide, with 44 in Selangor.
He explained that four more were identified in the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, three in Kedak, two in Perak and one each in Pulau Pinang and Negeri Sembilan.
“During the previous week, there were 69 hotspot localities detected nationwide.
“Two deaths as a result of dengue fever complications were reported during EW20,” he said in a media statement today.
He added that 42 deaths due to complications arising from dengue fever have been reported, compared to 28 deaths for the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that 2,461 cases of dengue fever have been reported, compared to 2,338 cases in the previous week.
For chikungunya surveillance, Muhammad Radzi said that one case was recorded, bringing the cumulative total to 25 cases.
“As for zika surveillance, 1,021 blood samples and six urine samples were screened for zika, and all results were negative,” he said. -TVS
