KUCHING, May 22: The 2024 Gawai Dayak Parade here symbolises the unity of the diverse ethnic groups in Sarawak whilst showcasing the uniqueness of the Lundu district.
It highlights the customs and culture of Sarawakian society, while simultaneously upholding the racial unity in Bumi Kenyalang.
Opar assemblyman, Billy Sujang said that participation from the culturally diverse community reflects a very high level of social inclusivity in Lundu District.
“What we see in the (parade) today is a unique ethnic amalgamation that we haven’t celebrated in a while, and the last celebration was held in 2018.
“This year marks a great start with excellent participation, and the involvement of all ethnic groups shows a very high level of social inclusiveness,” he said during his speech after the Gawai Dayak Parade 2024 here today.
The parade included 29 contingents, with a total of 725 participants.
Participants represented various ethnic groups, wearing traditional attire from their respective communities, such as Iban, Bidayuh, and Rara.
The parade covered a 2.6-kilometer route, starting from Lundu Mini Stadium, circling the Lundu market area, and returning to the stadium. – TVS
