Abang Johari welcomes exemption of Sarawak from targeted diesel subsidies

SEOUL, May 22: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari welcomed the decision to exempt Sarawak and Sabah from the implementation of targeted diesel subsidies.

“I would like to thank the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) for not imposing targeted diesel subsidies on Sarawak and Sabah, which means we are exempted,” he said.

In an interview with TVS after an event here today, he noted that the implementation of targeted diesel subsidies in Peninsular Malaysia will eventually lead to cost savings.

Anwar announced the Cabinet’s decision in a National Address broadcast live on all local media channels last night.

He explained that the exemption was made because the fuel is used by vehicles in almost every household in both states.

“Thus, we are deferring any action (to target subsidies for users in Sabah and Sarawak) as it would place a burden on the majority of the people,” he said. – TVS
