KUCHING, May 10: The Sarawak Government will only allow shotguns to be handed down from parents to legal sons or daughters only.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Laws and Indigenous Customs), Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, said that inherited shotguns must be re-registered, and the application must pass safety and health screenings.
“In line with local needs and culture, the current policy of the Sarawak Government allows shotguns to be inherited on the condition that the ownership is re-registered, and the application must pass safety and health screenings,” he said.
He said this in a response to a question from Baleh Assemblyman, Nicholas Kudi Jantai, during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
He also provided statistics on shotgun owners overall in Sarawak, specifically in the Kapit region.
“The overall statistics of shotgun owners in Sarawak amount to 45,568, while the statistics of shotgun owners in the Kapit region amount to 5,646,” he said. – TVS
