No damage to Iranian nuclear facilities following explosions, IAEA confirms

ByBernama

ANKARA, Apr 19 – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Friday that Iranian nuclear sites were undamaged after explosions were heard amid reports of an Israeli attack.

“The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed on Friday that there is no damage to Iranian nuclear sites after overnight reports of explosions amid suspected Israeli involvement,” stated the agency.

“IAEA can confirm that there is no damage to Iran’s nuclear sites,” Anadolu Agency (AA) quoted the agency as saying on X.

Director-General Rafael Grossi continues to call for extreme restraint from all parties and reiterates that nuclear facilities should never be a target in military conflicts, it added.

The agency said it is monitoring the situation very closely.

Earlier, explosions were heard in several Iranian cities early Friday, particularly in Isfahan in central Iran and west of Tabriz in the northwest of the country, AA cited the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

IRNA also attributed the sound of the explosion in Tabriz to the activation of air defence systems.

Tensions escalated between Iran and Israel after Tehran launched a drone and missile attack on Saturday in response to the April 1 attack on its consulate in Syria, in which seven military advisers were killed.

Israel has vowed a military response to Iran’s weekend attack. -TVS
