KUCHING, April 18: The Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Abdul Samat Gany, today lodged a police report against the owner of a Facebook account named “Charles Roger Francis” for making several defamatory posts against the Sarawak Premier and other Sarawakian leaders.
Abdul revealed that statements made by Charles regarding the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Sarawak and Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, were deemed insensitive, defamatory, insulting, and baseless.
“So today we made a report to the police for appropriate action to be taken, and further investigation can be conducted against the perpetrator.
“This includes remarks that offend the feelings of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP). The police will take appropriate action together with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” he said in a press conference after filing a police report at the Satok Police Station, Nagor Road here today.
Furthermore, he said that police reports would also be lodged throughout Sarawak.
“Police reports will be lodged in Sibu, Miri, as well as in Bintulu,” he added.
He clarified that at the time of filing the report, they had not yet determined the whereabouts of the perpetrator, as the statements were only made through Facebook.
He said the police would investigate the case under Section 504 of the Penal Code, while for the MCMC, the case would be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588].-TVS
