KUCHING, April 18: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) denies neglecting Kampung Haji Baki Recreation Park, in response to accusations made by Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s special assistant Michael Kong.
MPP Chairman Tan Kai highlighted the consistent efforts of MPP in maintaining the parks under its jurisdiction, such as Kampung Haji Baki Recreation Park.
“Routine activities such as grass cutting play a pivotal role in preserving the tidy appearance of parks, countering the portrayal presented in Michael Kong’s photos.
“Furthermore, MPP diligently conducts a range of maintenance duties, encompassing tasks such as weeding, tree trimming, and promptly rectifying any issues with faulty lighting, all in pursuit of maintaining the highest standards for the park,” he said in a statement.
At the same time, he disclosed that due to the forthcoming road upgrading project affecting Kampung Haji Baki Recreation Park, MPP currently has no immediate intentions to replace the time-worn children’s playground equipment.
Instead, alternative recreational facilities will be explored once the project is completed, he added.
Nevertheless, Tan said MPP will collaborate with the local community of Kampung Haji Baki to organize maintenance efforts and facilitate the removal of the deteriorating children’s playground equipment.
“The Council has upheld its commitment to consistently maintain all parks within its jurisdiction, including Kampung Haji Baki Recreation Park, and will continue to do so,” he said. – TVS
